Technology with a human touch.
Modern equipment helps us work accurately and consistently, but technology is only part of the story.
Our Amersham laboratory uses specialist lens-processing equipment, including MEI Bisphera technology, to shape prescription lenses for individual frames.
The system uses independent edging heads and incorporates automated inspection as part of the edging process. Our optical team remains involved in preparing, handling, assembling and checking completed orders.
For customers, the benefit is simple: specialist technology and experienced people working together to produce prescription eyewear with care.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Direct Sight glasses really made in the UK?
Yes. Every pair of prescription glasses from Direct Sight is made in our purpose-built optical laboratory in Amersham, Buckinghamshire. We do not outsource production overseas. Our lenses are cut, edged, fitted, and quality-checked in the UK by our team of qualified optical laboratory technicians and dispensing opticians.
Our wide range of frames and high quality lenses meet all optical standards and carry the CE mark.
What is the MEI Bisphera TBA?
The MEI Bisphera TBA is one of the most advanced robotic lens edging systems in the optical industry. It features dual edging heads that cut two lenses simultaneously. Providing excellent throughput with best-in-class automated quality control.
The machine performs 100% inspection of every lens. Ensuring each pair meets our strict standards before it reaches our manual quality check stage.
What does the 7-point quality check include?
Seven checks conducted by a qualified dispensing optician:
(1) prescription accuracy
(2) pupillary distance
(3) lens fitting
(4) coatings and treatments
(5) lens surface quality
(6) frame alignment
(7) overall frame condition.
Any pair that fails is remade with no exception before dispatch.
Are Direct Sight lenses the same quality as high-street opticians?
Yes. Direct Sight sources lenses from the same reputable suppliers used by many leading UK high-street optical chains. The materials and optical standards are equivalent. Our lower prices reflect our direct-to-consumer model. We cut out the middlemen and the overheads, not any reduction in the quality of the lenses themselves.
How quickly does the Direct Sight laboratory process orders?
Thanks to our MEI Bisphera robotic glazing equipment and UK-based team. Most prescription orders are processed within 1 to 3 working days. Standard delivery takes 5 to 7 working days in total. Next Day Express is available for orders placed before 3pm.
Can I visit the Direct Sight lab or store?
Yes. Direct Sight has an optical store on site at our Amersham, Buckinghamshire manufacturing facility. You are welcome to visit, browse thousands of frames, and collect glasses the same day where possible. Store prices are identical to our online prices. With free parking on site available.
