Frequently Asked Questions

What are prescription sunglasses?

Prescription sunglasses are sunglasses with corrective lenses built to your exact prescription. Rather than wearing standard glasses and non-prescription sunglasses separately. Prescription sunglasses give you clear, corrected vision and UV protection in one pair.

They are available in a wide range of frame styles and standard tinted, polarised or photochromic lens options. All prescription sunglasses are made in our Amersham optical laboratory and inspected by a dispensing optician before dispatch.

How much do prescription sunglasses cost in the UK?

At Direct Sight frames start from as little as £9.00 and can be customised with a sun tint for only £15. This is one of the most competitive starting prices for prescription sunglasses online in the UK.

The final price depends on your frame choice and any lens upgrades. These may include polarised lenses, photochromic lenses, varifocal lenses or thinner lens materials. Every pair includes a 365 day guarantee, 12-month scratch guarantee and 30 day returns as standard.

What is the difference between tinted, polarised and photochromic prescription lenses?

Tinted prescription lenses reduce the amount of light reaching your eyes and provide UV protection. They are the standard sunglass lens.

Polarised prescription lenses do everything a tinted lens does. Plus they cut horizontal glare from reflective surfaces such as water, roads, snow and glass. Making them the preferred choice for driving and water sports.

Photochromic prescription lenses (such as our own brand Adaptions®) automatically adjust their tint depending on UV light . Clear or lightly tinted indoors, darker outdoors.

Note: photochromic lenses do not darken inside a car as windscreens block UV. We recommend Polarised or standard tints for driving.

Are polarised prescription sunglasses good for driving?

Yes. Polarised prescription lenses are great for driving in bright conditions. They reduce horizontal glare from wet roads, other vehicles and reflective surfaces. They improving clarity and reducing eye strain.

Available at Direct Sight in grey, brown and green tints on a wide range of frames.

Note: some drivers who rely on vehicle GPS displays or instrument screens find polarised lenses affect screen visibility. If this is a concern, standard tinted lenses are a practical alternative for driving. Browse polarised prescription sunglasses
